Two Rich White Boys From New York Who Bought Justice...With Their Lives

Harris Johnson (Left)

"This goes to show that justice can't be bought by a bunch of rich white boys from New York," said Harris Johnson, a former state Democratic party official and Durham resident for 56 years.

Michael Schwerner (rich white boy from New York), left, James Chaney, center, and Andrew Goodman (rich white boy from New York)

"The slain civil rights workers - Mr. Chaney, 21, a black man from Meridian, Miss., and two white New Yorkers, Mr. Schwerner, 24, a Cornell graduate, and Mr. Goodman, 20, who had attended Queens College - were participating in what became known as Freedom Summer, the climax of an intensive voter-registration drive in the South.

"On June 21, 1964, the three men set out together in a Ford station wagon to inspect the ruins of a black church near Philadelphia, Miss., that had been firebombed by the Klan. Mr. Chaney was driving. In the afternoon, they were arrested for "speeding" by a Neshoba County deputy sheriff, Cecil Price. They were held at the sheriff's office in Philadelphia for several hours.

"During those hours, according to testimony at the federal trial, Deputy Price sent out word that the three in custody included a man who had been designated Goatee - the Klan's code for Mr. Schwerner, who had a goatee and had been marked for death by Mr. Bowers. Mr. Schwerner had infuriated the Klan by organizing a boycott of a white-owned variety store until it hired a black, and by his intensive work to register black voters.

"According to testimony in the federal trial, Deputy Price held the men long enough for Mr. Killen to round up a group of Klansmen. The civil rights workers were released from jail and were never seen again, although their subsequent movements were later established.

"Leaving the jail that night, they drove down Route 19, tailed by Deputy Price and two carloads of Klansmen. After a frantic chase, they were caught and taken to an isolated spot on Rock Cut Road, where they were killed: Mr. Schwerner on Mr. Bowers's orders, and Mr. Chaney and Mr. Goodman because they were witnesses.

"Mr. Chaney was beaten to death, while Mr. Schwerner and Mr. Goodman were each shot once in the chest. Their station wagon was set ablaze, and the bodies were buried under an earthen dam on the farm of a prominent Philadelphian, Olen Burrage.

"Within a month of the murders, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964"

So that's HJ? He was the bumbling idiot who got on the mike at the NCCU forum - right after Victoria P. accused DUMC of tapering with the rape kit!

We know what Edgar Ray Killen did with his old sorry @$$.
You don't have to remind us of that crap. What's your f*&%ing point. The black people in Durham exercised their right to vote.

Your bellyaching is not changing anything. Mike Nifong won and the people of Durham didn't like the idea of outsiders trying to influence their elections. Case f*&%ing closed.

May Edgar Ray Killen rot in hell where he belongs for murdering innocent people that were only trying to VOTE.

The Klan didn't like outsiders influencing elections either. You have a lot in common with Killen. He thought just your way.

That was the point and you proved it. Thank you.

Hey Justice, you are the black equivalent Of Edgar Ray..same hate in your heart. Want to do your lynching without any outside interference. You are two of a kind and you proved it with your own words.

I think J58 may be channeling the spirit of Killen. Got any white robes and a pointy hat, J58? You sound like pure Ku Klux Klan. Filthy racist. I guess big difference is you get led around by your nose by a demagogue named Nifong like a good old regular Stepandfetchit. Nifong says run along now, get back out of the way, until he calls you to come make an ass of yourselves again. You are only good to play the fool.

How stupid does one have to be, to read this post about the Klan not liking outsiders influencing their elections and then say that folks in Durham "don't like outsiders influing their elections."

Ha-a-ah!

This is the intellect of the Nifong voter. 58 must be his IQ.

What the hell do the deaths of some white activists who worked for civil rights have to do with the miscreants in the Duke case? The civil rights workers were not trying to degrade black women and call them racial epithets. These men fought and died for equality unlike the duke lacrosse team members who uttered these racist phrases: "thank your grandfather for my nice cotton shirt" corroborated by bissey, another white man who was their friend and neighbor and n---- according to kim roberts even in her revised 60 minutes interview and also the victim said this as well.

You all have clearly lost your damn minds to even post something like this! To compare those saints of the civil rights movement with the sodomy-loving-american psycho enthusiast-racist and sexist duke lax team memebers is an insult to the dead!

Anonymous said...

These saints of the civil rights movement are painted with the same wide brush of hatred that you, j58 and Mr. Johnson use daily in your vile expressions of hatred towards the rich white yankees. You verbally assail three innocents repeatedly and offer them up as sacraficial lambs to feed your hate. The resemblence to you and the klan is striking. Have you looked in the mirror lately? Do you see the face of hatred looking back at you when you do?

Point well taken, 10:22. Check anger befor posting. 6:58 must be referring to Nifong and his ilk, or he is one of the Durhamites who love persecuting the boys so very much he simply cannot bear to consider any facts. Joan's referral to events not so long past is right on target: these people have reversed roles and lack the sense of history to understand that.

Reading comments from Injustice58 and the other poster are very interesting. Both have declared the lacrosse players guilty of rape, even though there is no evidence of rape other than the accuser's statements.

Of course, since the subsequent actions of the accuser were in direct conflict to what she was telling the police (or what Liefong tells us she was saying to the police), I have to look at her comments with more than the proverbial grain of salt.

Injustice58 and his fellow poster are telling us that there is a new standard for "proving" guilt in Durham: the accusation. Once an accusation is made, according to them, the case is closed.

Do they wish to live under those standards of justice? Something tells me that they do. Keep in mind that both of them are endorsing what used to happen in the Jim Crow South when a white woman would falsely accuse a black male of rape.

All it took was the woman's accusation, which then was accepted as "proof" that a rape occurred, not matter what the evidence showed. These two -- and I would say they are pretty much representative of the black community in Durham -- are saying that those standards of "justice" used in the Jim Crow South were the correct standards. Thus, they are endorsing what happened to black males who were falsely accused.

I never would have thought that blacks would come to endorse -- indeed, praise -- those kinds of standards (if we can call them that) that led to the murders of so many black men. But, as you can see on this page, you have the proof.

Yes Mr. Anderson, and I address you as Mr. or Sir b/c you have earned the respect of myself and others for your well thought out and well written blogs on this case. It does appear based on the post and the statements of many, ie:
"It doesn't matter whether they did it or not" that some people would like to see the same standards applied and want to disregard the injustices of the past as long as it "makes up for the injustices of the past".

Right Justice58 and anonymous "they are not innocent". Anonymous is right, the three young men are not innocent anymore, they bare witness to what a corrupt and evil world really exist beyond the walls of Duke U.

the use of the images of those who fought againist the denigration of blacks to defend the actions of those drunken yankee whoremongers who thought they could get away scott free after assaulting a black woman and calling her and her dancing partner racial insults and thanking them for a cotton shirt which was an attempt to knock the women to slavery status is not going to be tolerated without some comments. as to the black men railroaded in the south, i dont remember any of them having a pr firm and hot and cold running lawyers and press conferences, recall campaigns financed by out of state money who tried to buy their way out of an election like the duke 3. the duke 3 have nothing in commone whatsoever with the men above and you all erred in trying to post something like this. Prof. Anderson articulates so well what many of this feel in this case.
We ask that the Old South standard of viewing thru the prism of race be removed.

That done, what is left?

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF RAPE.

Justice, not believing this ONE WOMAN in this ONE CASE has nothing to do with race relations, disrespect to you or woman's rights.

But we disrespect your way of thinking, as we hated it in white people in the past. We can't hate it in the Klan, and praise it in you.

The truly ridiculous point of view that "people who look like me" never lie is what the Klan promotes. If you promote that too, you are no different in your heart than they are. You are them, in different packaging. When you condemn them, rightly, you are condeming yourself.

Thank you Liestoppers for your moving article. It's been a down weed between the election results and the death of Ed Bradley. The timing of your piece is excellent. For Johnson or anyone for that matter to spew those ugly words about"2 rich white boys" is telling and shows how racists some people are.

Imagine the pain of the parents of Goodman and Schwerner if they are still alive to read Harris Johnson's ugly words. Those 2 rich, yankee, white boys were murdered so many years ago because they tried to help black people to vote to improve their lives. Some people just don't get it. How very sad.

Thank you for the article Liestoppers. I wish a major newspaper had the courage to put your story on its front page.

To Justice58
I think the point of the blog was to demonstrate the unfairness of sarcastic comments referring to "the rich, white boys from New York" as if being "rich" and "white" and "from New York" put these boys in a category that people could comfortably condemn and hate. The blogger has reminded us that "rich, white boys from New York" are also heroes and the details of who ANY person is are important...so are the details of this case and the evidence or lack thereof. That evidence is for the most part publicly available and is overwhelmingly excuplatory. If you examine the particulars of the evidence with an open mind and substitute someone you care about for the "rich, white boys from New York" you may see this case in a different light. I admire the fact you are willing to enter the debate...I hope it shows you are willing to examine the situation from other perspectives.

"This goes to show that justice can't be bought by a bunch of rich white boys from New York," said Harris Johnson, a former state Democratic party official and Durham resident for 56 years.

This post does NOT compare the Lacrosse team to the civil rights workers. Show ONE sentence where it does.

It debates the ignorance and hypocrisy of Mr. Harris' comment. The sacrifice and interference of "two rich white boys" helped bring voting rights to the Old South.

Now, Mr. Harris sounds like the old Klan, and HE wants no interference. That's hypocrisy.

I think reading comprehension accounts for much of the dissension in this case.

I was wondering what Injustice58 thinks about the fact that the Duke basketball team had a party about two weeks before the lacrosse party -- and hired strippers. Is he also saying that black males NEVER hire strippers for their parties?

No, he is trying to change the subject. The three young men are charged with rape and kidnapping, and there is no evidence (other than the accuser's many stories) to go with those charges, and from the evidence that does exist, in a normal court of law, those charges would have been dismissed long ago.

What Injustice58 is saying that because SOMEONE (not one of those charged, by the way) made the "cotton shirt" remark in response to a racially-charged slur from Kim Pittman, that therefore Seligmann, Finnerty, and Evans should go to prison for rape.

This is a very interesting way of doing "justice." By the way, Mr. Injustice58, my ex-wife was raped by a black man. Does that mean that she should have gone out and picked ANY black man out of a lineup and accused him? During the rape, he was making racial slurs toward her. According to your logic, she would have been fully justified in doing so. (She did not, because unlike you Mr. Injustice58, she wanted to do what was right.)

Also, by the way, my two adopted sons (both aged 11) are black, so you cannot lay the "Anderson hates blacks" routine on me.

You already have said you do not wish to look at the evidence for rape. There is none, and the Victoria Peterson "Duke University tampered with the DNA" does not cut it in the real world, only in Durham.

I believe that Ms Roberts also stated that the men who said that(who were not any or the three indicted players-by the way according to Ms Roberts) were responding to her RACIST comment about white men and the size of their penises. Good for you....God bless you for that.

I am MARRIED to a white man, who has fathered my 3 little children. And I still believe the duke 3 are guilty.

Don't play that look at me, s&*t! It won't work, baby.

I have no ill feelings against white people whatsoever. For Christ sake.... I'm very much in love with my husband. The duke case is a very separate issue. The duke 3 made race an issue when they used the n-word and the "thank your grandpa for my cotton shirt". It's b*st*rds like them (duke 3's sense of entitlement) that makes me disgusted. I despise racist people, rapist, murderers, child molesters, men that exploit women and the rich who thinks their money can buy them off.

William... look at this thing very carefully and examine all things. Search your own heart before God and see what the answer might be.

I have more whites in my family than I can shake a stick at....but WHO'S COUNTING. And I'm not talking about my husband's side either. Honest to God.

So all of you calling me a racist....... are sooooooo off the mark. In the case with the dukies.... They broke the law and lawbreakers must PAY the PIPER. No one is above the law. Everyone must obey the law of the land.

Anonymous said...

I have not said the lacrosse players did not do wrong. I have said the evidence that they committed rape and kidnapping does not exist.

It is one thing to praise the conduct of young men drinking and hiring strippers. I consider it to be immoral behavior, but we also have to face it that this kind of behavior is much more prevalent among young people than maybe people my age want to admit.

But it is quite another to say that since they had a party with underage drinking and strippers, THEREFORE they committed rape.

When we say "innocent," we are saying innocent of rape, kidnapping and assault. The kind of rape and assault that Liefong has described would leave DNA all over the place. And, no, people at Duke University Hospital have not perfected the system in which one can remove one strand of DNA from a sample, but not the other. That dog won't hunt.

Over the years, I have defended both blacks and whites when they were victims of wrongful prosecution, and my writing record demonstrates that. I am not "full of myself," as the last poster has said, but rather am concerned that in a criminal system that depends upon precedent, the procedures that Liefong has used to secure indictments are so god-awful flawed that if they are held up, literally ALL of the constitutional protections that accused people now have as a matter of right would be destroyed.

Think about it, those of who who are insisting that the Duke Three be railroaded into a conviction. Do you really want this kind of a system to be in place? One of the reasons that the courts in the 1960s really emphasized procedures was because blacks, and especially black men, were being victimized by wrongful prosecutions.

Now you are telling us that you want those protections to be thrown out the window so that a wrongful conviction can be given to three young whites. Do you realize that if the blacks in Durham are successful in gaining this conviction, and it holds up on appeal, that you are opening the gates for even more black males to be wrongfully convicted?

You need to think about what you are advocating. If you remember the saying, "Be careful for what you wish, because you might get it," this is one of those moments.

William L. Anderson

No, you are definitely full of yourself if you believe comparing these students to slain civil rights workers is not overtly offensive.

Anonymous said...

First, I have not compared them to the three workers. None of my posted comments or articles ever have referenced what happened in Philadelphia, Mississippi in the summer of 1964.

But, you have been saying that because the Duke Three are not in that same category, therefore they have no right to a defense. I have read many remarks by blacks that say any challenge to the accuser is an act of racism, so by definition, the exercise of the constitutional right to a defense also is an act of racism, and, thus, the three are guilty of rape.

I need to add that in the area of criminal justice, EVERYONE is entitled to a defense. Guess what? The accused in the Scottsboro Boys trial (or trials) were not model citizens, either, but they still were wrongfully convicted. Alan Gell was not a "model" citizen, yet the Open Discovery law through which we have seen Liefong's non-evidence came about because Alan Gell was wrongfully convicted of murder and actually spent time on death row.

As for the Duke Three, I do know that Reade Seligmann had a very good reputation at Duke and at home, and was popular with both blacks and whites. Ask the blacks at Duke who knew him, and they will describe someone quite different than the "rapist" that Injustice58 constantly rails about. (Has Injustice58 ever met Reade Seligmann? Does he know anything about him?)

So, what you have been saying is that you want a conviction with no evidence and that any attempt for the three to defend themselves is an act of racism. Tell me, which public statement by the defense has been racist? False accuser? They believe she is falsely accusing the men of rape. There is nothing racist about it, no matter how you spin it.

Remember, if you believe that the Duke Three should not be permitted to defend themselves, you ultimately are helping to wrongfully convict black males in the future. Think about those consequences. Are you willing to live with that?

Ask Darryl Hunt what he thinks? He is black, and was wrongfully convicted of murder, and now works for the Innocent Project. I can guarantee you he would not approve of what you are doing.

Yes, there have been comments on race-obsessed blogs. Some of my articles are linked to websites with which I vehemently disagree, but when you call for race-based convictions yourself, you are only adding fuel to the fire of racism.

Justice58 - congratulations, I was going to get into the real issue of your problem with the Duke3 and attack you for that, but I am a bigger person, yes I am white and guess what I have been a victim of racism right after the Rodney King verdict came down. Yes only because I was white, I didn't say a word to the people, never really saw them, but I had threats made against me and only was saved b/c of a friend of mine who happened to be AA saw what was going on and ran over an put his arm around me. Do you condone that? Was thier actions that night right b/c of the verdict in the Rodney King case which was obvisouly wrong? but b/c I was the right color they choose to single me out. Is that right? Did I make it about race that night? If I replied using racial slurs back, would I have been the one making it about race?

Now as far as your accusations that the Duke3 made it about race, please provide the proof that they made any of those comments, in fact their is proof that one of the three was miles away at the time of the alleged comment.

Now once you look within yourself and search for the proof of the Duke3 making those comments, look for any evidence that they are as you claim guilty. Please enlightent us with your single peace of evidence, except for the multiple versions of the what happened from the AV. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

11:17-- Ms. Roberts has already stated on 60 Minutes that it was not any or the 3 accused men who made those comments. But why would J58 let anything like the facts get in the way of her "truth"???

Anonymous said...

I think the relevant question is this: Would the blacks in Durham want black males convicted on rape charges with the same specious "evidence" that Liefong has been giving us?

Your first inclination is to answer (correctly): "They already have been convicted with such specious evidence?" If that is your answer, do you believe those were "just" verdicts? If you say, "No," then you are admitting that you want a wrongful conviction for pure racial reasons.

Look, if I believed that the Duke Three were guilty of rape, I would not be posting here or writing any articles defending them. But I do know something about rape and the court system, and I can guarantee you that the charges not only are false, but are transparently false. Yes, I use the word "guarantee."

If the statements of Chan Hall at NCCU are indicative of the thinking of the black community in Durham, would Injustice58 support the indictment and conviction of her husband for rape, even if he did not commit it? After all, Chan Hall declared that the Duke Three needed to be prosecuted even if they did not commit the crime.

Since she agrees with what has been said in the community, I can only conclude that she would gladly support a rape indictment against her husband.

Furthermore, would she support rape charges against her husband BASED ON THE EVIDENCE THAT THE PROSECUTION HAS BEEN GIVING? (Keep in mind that North Carolina's Open Discovery law does not permit the prosecutor to hide evidence. Nifong does not have a "smoking gun" somewhere.)

If she says yes, then she would be willing to railroad her own husband into a rape conviction just to satisfy the Chan Halls of this world. If she says no, then she is openly admitting that the prosecution is a lie, but she supports it because she does not like the defendants.

I can only hope that Injustice58 does not find herself in a set of circumstances that mirror what she is supporting now. Right now, she has come out foresquare in favor of prosecutorial abuse, destruction of evidence, lying to the courts, and misuse of the powers of the office of the prosecutor.

But those who understand her deficiencies, should understand that she is unable to answer in any competent way.

She doesn't because she can't. Be kinder.

Save it!! It won't work. Mike Nifong won the election fair and square. The voters decided that he is the MAN. For God sake... Deal with it.

Mike is going against the grain in prosecuting 3 accused thugs of rape. I commend him for doing his job and that is why the voters elected him as their DA. If the boys were black, I'd say the same thing. No one is above the law. Period.

I'm NOT changing my stand:

I support the victim.

Anonymous said...

Justice...please tell WHY you support the victim. What has she proven that you are willing to support? Remember, she did not come up with the rape alleagtion until some nurse asked if that happened.

Put up or shut up.

Yes MN did win the election with the minority of the votes. Which three thugs are you referring to? Mike Nifong, Gotlieb and our favorite but yet to be proved sexual harraser, ADA Couch? Are the three you are referring to as thugs? Thank you for your time.

oh, except none of those three said that. so... you think these three guys should be punished for rape because someone in their vicinity used a racial slur.

and what's really remarkable is, I don't think you even realize how irrational that sounds.

"Yes, (GASP) you heard it right... I MARRIED A WHITE MAN.

D*mn right that doesn't make me a racist. Have you ever seem a racist marry anyone out of their race? Are you insane....idiot.

Use your warped brain for once. We know your kind.

Truth be known: You want to believe rich white men over a poor black woman. Period. We're not falling for your game, b/c baby you got it."

your husband may be white, but he's certainly not rich... since you clearly have a problem with rich white guys. in any case, you act like we're believing rich white guys over a poor black woman, end of story. except many of us initially believed the woman, until more facts started coming out.

so in the end, what we actually believe is "three rich white guys plus a whole lot of evidence" over "a poor black woman plus no evidence."

"we know your kind"? ha. if any of us said that to you, it would sound so racist you'd go ballistic. but I guess since you're black, it's totally acceptable to say sh*t like that, right?

To Justice58, this will be my last comment to you. One of those three "thugs," Reade Seligmann, has a very good reputation in his community, and blacks at Duke and elsewhere speak very highly of him. His record over the years has been very good.

Are you saying he is a "thug" because you know something about him, or because the accuser picked him out of a picture lineup? You know that the lineup violated the Durham city policy as well as the recommendations of the North Carolina Bar Association, and almost surely would be enough to throw out a conviction upon appeal.

Now, I do not approve of some of the personal attacks on you in this blog, but from what I can tell you are saying that the word of the accuser is all that you need to verify that Seligmann is a thug and a rapist. Yet, the real physical evidence that surely would accompany an attack as brutal as what the accuser and Nifong charge would have left DNA everywhere.

Also, Seligmann has proof that he was not at the party when the alleged rape took place.

I would hope that your standards for determining thuggery are not what they seem to be, and I would ask you to take a closer look at what has happened and ask yourself if you really want the standards of prosecution and evidence to be so low as to result in wrongful convictions.

There already are too many wrongful convictions in this country, and I have spoken out against them forcefully. Sometimes this stand has cost me relationships and friendships that have gone back for decades. My relationships with people in my own church are strained because of my personal stand against abusive prosecutions. (They tend to be conservative people who believe that Republicans never would abuse the system.)

Whatever your thoughts on this particular case, I would hope and pray that you would take a hard look at what is happening in this country. The prisons are full of guilty people -- but I also can assure you that thousands of people in prison today are wrongfully convicted.

In fact, the reason North Carolina has the Open Discovery Act was because of prosecutorial abuse that put an innocent person, Alan Gell, on death row. Are you really willing to trust people like that?

this is the US..so yes, Justice58 can say literally anything she wants while whitey better watch his tongue....its called equal rights. Example: Much has been made about the racial remarks by another lax player...but nothing about how the stripper admittedly baited them by first making remarks about the boy's manhood.

And here's the best part about this equal rights stuff: there's a whole bunch of folks (and the DA) in durham county who believe the best outcome for civil peace in Durham would be to find these boys guilty regardless of evidence.

SouthernGirl2 said...

No they don't....You're lying.

Hold on... where does calling someone a limp d*&k is a racist remark. You are twisted to think such BS.

Have you ever thought??...maybe he did have a limp d*&k. That is no excuse to use racial slurs. Comparing the n-word to limp d*ck is insane thinking.

William: I hope you don't think it's equal in comparison.

Kim probably used the words to slap down their manhood but it doesn't equal being called the n-word. I understand that men get angry about things like that. But, just suppose it were true. Is that Kim's fault that the d*&k was limp. NO.

Justice 58,
Surely you accept that Ed Bradley was a fair man. And surely he is more credible, even to you, than the accuser in this case. He had access to the entire file of evidence. After reviewing it he spent his final days making sure this story of prosecutorial abuse was told on national television and he was the one telling it. I imagine he pushed himself, even though he was very fatigued, because he knew his credibility might make a difference with his own people. Out of respect for him, why don't you review the 60 Minutes episode willing to accept that the accuser might have made a mistake--if she is honest (not likely), was confused due to mental illness and/or alcohol and drug use (more likely), or is just a dishonest person (no comment). I have found nothing about this accuser that should lead anyone to simply take her at her word. There must be evidence to back her up for us to accept her story. No one who has looked (and many have) has been able to find ANY evidence she is telling the truth. Not even Ed Bradley could find it.

Dear citizens,
Mike here....
Please don't pick on me ..I'm really one righteous dude...trying to eliminate the racial tension in Durham through this unjust prosecution. Is evidence really all that important when it comes to the civil rights movement?

Give me some sympathy...my family and I just had to endure a tough election where people called me names and stuff. And just imagine that everday I have to walk around with a pit in my stomach knowing the terrible tradgedy that befell this unfortunate performing artist, at the hands of white devil-slavemasters. I often tear up when I think about what this fine young lady has had to endure.

Folks, the weight of the world is on my shoulders...but in the end I know I will be remembered as a great civil rights leader who had the courage to destroy three boys in order to bring an end to the racial division to Durham County, NC.

Can't you just see my vision folks...the day those boys are convicted, the citiizens of Durham will come together and rejoice and permanently put an end to the racial division. Whites and blacks alike will be hugging and singing in the streets on this glorious day while I dance a little victory jig with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

And even though I am a humble man, should you want to erect a statue of me in my honor...well, OK.

Thank you all.

Justice58 - exactly how have you decided that the defendants are guilty? What do you base that on? What evidence are you relying on to reach the conclusion that they are guilty?

I may be wrong but I suspect that you feel that the allegation in and of itself is proof of guilt. The fact that the AV says it happened and has picked out three defendants is your proof. I say that because I don't know what else you could be relying on. If I'm missing something help me out.

Anonymous said...

Many of my posts today have been the target for most of J-58's nasty comments and four-letter words. But it really does not bother me and I don't think she should be blocked.

Most of us want due process and civil rights and constitutional rights to be extended to the Lax boys. So I think, despite J-58's verbal abuse, we should give her the same right to be heard. Her posts probably do represent a number of durham citizens and it doesn't hurt to view that side of the issue. It doesn't mean they are credible.

I don't like a lot of what she says, but I will defend her right to free speech--although, maybe she could clean it up a bit.

But most importantly, her posts offer a hilarious, idiotic, comical break from what is becoming a very serious matter. Her total lack of wit and intelligence makes her an easy target to pick on.

Hey Justice
I posted on the previous listing but didn’t know if you saw my question.

What if this case goes to trial? And it’s shown in the courtroom that’s there’s no evidence that a crime occurred, would you then believe it when you see it in that setting what really happened that night? Or would you never be willing to see the truth? Say, for instance, the defense catches her in a lie that no one could rational deny showed she was lying. Or she admits that she lied?

I know if the opposite where true for me, I would definitely say hang them high, but I seriously doubt that I’ll ever see such facts develop. What I’m saying is that if the evidence showed that something did happen, then I would be right there with you. However, all the evidence that’s come out, open discovery law, and I just don’t see where you are coming from? I’m compassionate and understanding enough to see it both ways, are you?
Thanks

Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you would tell us whether you and Assata are still seeking justice for Precious and Kim Pittman or only for Precious, and if you are no longer seeking justice for Kim, why is that?

Anonymous said...

For those who continue to feel compelled to judge Finnerty as a thug, gay basher, etc. based on the fight he was involved with in DC, please read the words of DC prosecutor's office:

"It was an argument between two young guys who were sizing each other up," she said. "Both sides had an equal portion of discussion, so we felt it wasn’t specifically a hate crime. So we waived the option there."

You all have attacked me because I believe in the victim. When I fire right back at you, you call for me to be banned. Such wimps.

The fact remains: I am still a supporter of the victim.

You are the ones with a closed mind. You can't accept the fact that the dukies raped a poor defenseless black woman.

You attack her and call her names and I will not allow you to do so. I will stand in the gap and defend her.

One lying duke supporter said: One of the dukes wasn't even at the party. Such liars.

1. Reade Seligmann was there, dressed in a red shirt.(pictures)

2. Collin Finnerty was there because, (his dad said) on Dan Abramhs...Collin saw the dancers come and he saw them leave. (I watched the report).

3. Dave Evans was there partying his @$$ off.

Now who is lying here???

WILL YOU BE LAUGHING WHEN THE DUKE 3 ARE FOUND GUILTY???

Justice - I, for one am not attacking you, nor do I want you banned. I think you are a comic genius.

Are you going to start going to take your character public with appearances on mainstream venues like Saturday Night Live and the Commedy Channel or are you going to stay underground on blogs to let your fan-base grow on a grassroots level. I think it's probably still too early to do a movie, but if you decide to go that route, I'd probaby pay to watch your skits.

Also, could you bring back some of the material you did on Justice 4 Two Sisters? That stuff about your grandmother's stories and your view on black scholars was priceless. Edgy and raw, but priceless.

Justice 58 I am a rape victim and even I can't stand behind a girl who cries rape when she wasn't. When a female is raped we go through a series phases that no one rape victim breaks.

Crystal has done none of them as far as I can see. She has filed false charges in the past and she could not back them up. The person who raped me had five or six other attacks under his belt. Rapist don't start at age 20, they start much sooner because something happened to them in there pasts.

Lets not forget that Crystal has a history of mental illness and is off of her medications. That is occuring to the family mouth piece Jakki.

Anonymous said...

To Justice 58: Kim Pittman says the whole rape thing is a crock and that she was with Precious for all but 5 minutes that night. Also, the bouncer at the Platinum Club says that Precious has been running around telling everyone that she is going to get money from the white boys, which confirms that the whole thing is a crock and that it is really just about extortion and sticking it to whitey. If they both testify this way in court, would you agree that the case should be dismissed?

Anonymous said...

But Seligmann was not there later -- when AV said she was raped. By the way, did you support the arrest of Elmostafa, whose crime was being able to be a reliable source of an alibi for Seligmann?

Also, how do you explain away the picture of Seligmann at the bank teller?

I am glad you will not be on any criminal jury, for you are no different than the white racist jurors in the Scottsboro Boys trial. There is not difference, none.

J58, I can see that you are worried about the testimony we will be getting from Kim and the bouncer at the Platinum Club because you have been dodging those questions big time. But I have another question for you. If the victim was raped by three different guys, why is there no DNA evidence to support her story?

Anonymous said...

To Justice 58:

If the "victim" in this case has given the police multiple conflicting stories about what happened at the party, including she was not raped, she was raped by 20 guys, she was raped by 5 guys, she was raped by 3 guys with the assistance of Kim Pittman, she was raped by 3 guys without the assistance of Kim Pittman, and so forth; there is no DNA evidence to show that any rape occurred; Kim says that the whole rape thing is a crock and that she was with the "victim" for all but five minutes that evening; the bouncer at the Platinum Club says the "victim" has been running around telling everyone she is going to get money from the white boys; and Seligmann has photos of himself at an ATM machine a mile away at the time the rape supposedly occurred, do you think that a jury will be able to find the LAX players to be guilty beyond a reasonable doutbt? And the next time we have a case like this and we have a white woman making allegations of rape against three black basketball players on similar facts, will you be content to see them go to prison for 20 years?

Anonymous said...

I think that if the jurors are like J58, they will vote guilty. After all, she has said she has her mind made up, and that anything that contradicts the accuser is a lie and is racist.

Of course, the accuser has contradicted the accuser, so I guess the accuser also is a racist and liar.

All sides have the right to be heard. I don't necessarily agree with how some have chosen to share but the truth remains, we are the people.

Much of what I have read here hurts YET it challenges me to look deeper into my character, my integrity, my beliefs.

LieStoppers can delete comments but they cannot delete that which other's feel. If we are truly trying to understand each other then we must try to understand that which makes us uncomfortable.

Dialogue can be painful, confronting and gut wrenching yet we can choose to tread lightly and with that it can bring forth a better understanding.

Humbly I submit this comment.

We can all "dialog" and dig into one another's beliefs, character blah blah blah...
But I respectfully feel the need to point out there's still no evidence of any rape having taken place...In fact , the evidence all proves the opposite.
Everything else is just chattering.

Anonymous said...

Guys, you should see J58's posts on other blogs. Her main excuse is the accuser picked the men who raped her out of a lineup. So, my plan is to go to wherever J58 lives, (which isn't Durham by the way, pretty sure it's Texas) and say that this lady raped me (ps im a girl). And then pick her picture out of a lineup. And regardless of whether or not she did it, I want you all to support me, because I picked a picture out of a lineup, which clearly shows I was raped, does it not?

As someone who grew up with Colin in GC, I want you all to know that he is definitely innocent. And as someone who works with another ACC lax team, I want you all to know this is not how these men are. This woman has lied so visciously it is sickening. Crystal Gail Mangum should rot in jail for what she has done. And so should Mike Nifong. While I like to believe I am not racist, black apologists make me sick, and I think people like J58 should be committed and considerd a menace to society. Anyone who produces that much hate because of a person's social class or skin color does not deserve to have an opinion be voiced. I love that it's okay for black people to be racists against whites, but anytime a white person says anythign that could be viewed as race related, it's a hate crime.

Oh and j58, get a clue, no one thinks "limp dick" is racist. It's the fact that she said "limp dick WHITE BOY" She refered to him as "white boy" thus commenting on his RACE thus making a derogatory statement about him regarding his RACE which is just as RACIST is n*gger. Capiche?

J58-better be careful, I'm about to pick you out of a lineup and say you're guilty! Run bitch! Run!

Also, has anyone else seen that whole bit about how she passed out two days before the "rape" at her strip club and had to be carried out and was dropped several times on a gravel parking lot, which resulted in the cuts and scarpes she claimed were from her viscious beating?

To the anonymous poster who wrote,"they are not innocent. ", You're right. They are not innocent. Only children are innocent. Considering the evidence presented against them, though, any fair minded person would have to admit that they are also not guilty.

To the people posting who would prefer that everyone else shut up and allow them to proceed with their lynching, answer this question:

How does it serve justice to convict anyone of a capital crime simply because they belong to a social group which is currently held in disfavor by a bigoted segment of society?

Isn't that form of justice about as pure as the form of assumed racial superiority which prompts people of one race to insist that even their newborn baby boys must be referred to as "manchild" while viewing as perfectly acceptable the practice of referring to grown men of another race as "white boys"?

In the previous century, white bigots would refer to a grown black man as a "boy", and would insist on elaborate politeness and respect from black people toward themselves and members of their own race while dismissing the necessity of showing the same respect towards black adults.

Maybe this blatant form of bigotry is seen as exhibition of politically correct behavior, but it is every bit as wrong, as socially unjust, and as harmful to the fabric of society today when practiced by black people against white people as it was 50+ years ago when it was white people behaving in the same disrespectful fashion towards black people.

We can't expect justice from our society or from our justice system until it is universally recognized that it is just as bad to wear a T shirt with the legend "Cracka-killa" as it is to post a sign which reads "Nigger, don't let the sun set on you in this town".

Public expressions of disrespect and hatred toward white people as a race by black people is no more understandable and no more worthy of being excused by the citing of past history than the same behavior directed at any racial or ethnic group by any other.

The double standard has to be disowned by all of us, regardless of past wrongs, if we are to survive as a species. One and only one standard of justice must apply to all, or there are no standards upon which to base a society.
