A Two-Fonged Approach

Throughout the Hoax, Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong has demonstrated on many occasions that truth and he have a fickle, on-again/off-again relationship. This tumultuous love-hate affair is most apparent when comparing Mr. Nifong’s statements to the court with his own contradictory statements to the public and the press.

To the media
In a March 31 interview with a News & Observer reporter, Nifong was asked "How many interviews do you think you've given?"
"In excess of 50," Nifong said. N&O
To the court

"I'm glad Bannon brought up the internet. The internet is reporting that I gave 50-70 interviews. I've checked my calendar and have approximately 15 interviews noted on my calendar the last being April 1st. Otherwise I've been responding with no comment." Mike Nifong, Duke Hoax hearing, September 22, 2006 LS

To David Smith, chairman of Friends of Durham PAC:

"And we asked Mike Nifong, and one of his comments was that he's the only one that's interviewed this victim," Smith said. "And he feels confident in his case."

To the court:

"I've had conversations with (the accuser) about how she's doing. I've had conversations with (the accuser) about her seeing her kids," Nifong said. "I haven't talked with her about the facts of that night. ... We're not at that stage yet."

Nifong said he met with the accuser and an investigator on April 11, but didn't discuss details of the case because the woman was "too traumatized." Nifong said the woman didn't make eye contact with him and often seemed on the verge of crying. Their discussion centered around how the case would develop, he said."She probably did not speak 15 words during the meeting," Nifong said. SF Gate

To the media:

"And we were trying to, just as Dr. Meehan said, trying to avoid dragging any names through the mud but at the same time his report made it clear that all the information was available if they wanted it and they have every word of it,” Nifong said after court in clarifying his remarks to say that he knew about the DNA results. N&O

To the court:

"The state is not aware of any additional material or information which may be exculpatory in nature with respect to the defendant [Seligmann]," Nifong wrote in a court filing [May 18].

“The first I had heard of this particular situation was when I was served with this particular motion” on Wednesday, Nifong told the judge. N&O

"We're providing in good faith what we can in these circumstances," Nifong said. "Despite the feelings of some people, this is not the only case in Durham." AP

To the media:

"In terms of what I said, no, I wouldn't say I regret anything I've said," Nifong said. N&O

To the court:
Nifong responded that revocation of law licenses should be the penalty for violating the rules. "No attorney should have any objection whatsoever to complying with the bar rules," Nifong said. N&O
It appears that we finally have found something that we can agree with Nifong on.

For Nifong, the problem is we did all this in the light of day, nowhere to hid. He documented his own abuses.

Note that he seems rather reluctant to make statements in writing to the court.

Nifong told the judge (Judge Stephens?) that his 4/11 meeting notes with AV were not discoverable because the discussion had to do with his role as a lawyer trying the case and not his role as an investigator gathering info about the crime. Can the current judge be asked to review the DA's notes in camera and decide whether they are something the defence has a right to? That is if the notes didn't get misplaced. Please note that Sgt. Gotlieb in his typed report stated that they had discussed the incident with the AV. Since there is a discrepency between the LE and the DA wouldn't it be prudent for the judge to decide if the notes are discoverable or not?

DA Nifong is a good and decent prosecutor, for Durham County, NC. You all would be fortunate to have such a DA.

For God's sake, stop it, you troll. Don't you have better things to do than to post nonsensical, baiting ravings on a website? Really outside this case, what is your basis for saying that Nifong is a "good and decent" anything? And if you think that he is those things based upon this case, you're either a fool or utterly naive. Unless you can put together a cogent argument, you're better off hanging out with Victoria Peterson and other yahoos. For one, I'm glad he's not my DA...wouldn't want to see my taxes go up via to a multimillion dollar lawsuit thanks to the Nin-fung-poop.

Yep, Durham will pay the 3 dukies millions of dollars that could have been spent on education. A baddly need commodity in some parts of Durham. So lucky for Durham

I wonder if Nifong will have an impact on business in Durham? Is the bad press making companies decide not to locate or expand there? I wonder what the local "Chamber of Commerce" thinks of all this?

Has any local business leaders made comments?

James, you don't know what you are missing, why cant you just agree and look at things from the rape victims side.

Anonymous said...

Folks, ignore 'theman'...just another baiter. No sense to any of his/her posts...

Nifong said after the election that he had the toughest job in all of Durham. I'd bet the toughest job in Durham, and possibly the world, belongs to the Head of the Durham Chamber of Commerce.

Another Liefong lie.

"Two Fonged" approach. LOL. You guys are really good.

Anonymous said...

To "The Man",
Why should I beleive Precious? Because she said so? I prefer forensic evidence.

I wonder if Nifong would be so zealous if this were his son being accused of rape? Remeber, under his jurisdication, all you need is a drug addicted , bi-polar prostitute to make an allegation. Perhaps someone should show Nifong what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
We'll see how overzealous he is then!

I like this article a lot--proves how he has no idea whats going on.

These guys are guilty, Nifong says they are. Nifong is a lawyer and lawyers don't lie.

Unknown said...

And now we've gone completely off the deep end...

Anonymous said...

So what does that mean JAMES, like I said lawyers don't lie.

Anonymous said...

TheMan is just a troll, I don't think he even believes what he's saying, he's just trying to get people riled up. He knows as well as anyone else this case is a joke. Trust me.

Anonymous said...

Not a troll, just letting you know that lawyers don't lie, Nifong is a lawyer and he says these 3 are guilty. Back to lawyers don't lie.

Look, Liestoppers:

I have work I have to do, but how the heck can I do it when you and K.C. are constantly putting up new posts, and the comments boards are going wacko! How do you expect me to get work done in these conditions? I do have a day job, you know!

Actually, I blame Nifong for turning me into a Duke lacrosse junkie. So, if I don't get as many publications this year as I usually get, I am going to sue him for lost travel money!

Anonymous said...

I agree with theman, lawyers don't lie specially in court, if Nifong is going on with this case he has something to convict them with.

well lets see here

1. Reade has evidence that he was no where near the house at the time of the se called rape.

2.The F/A was making a cell phone call during this so called rape.

3. she was going to the hospitals looking to see if she could con the doctors in to giving her drugs.

4. The other dancer is a convicted thief and could have stolen her money.

5. the F/S has more stories of that night than I do childern.

6.Her former co-workers even said she was making plans to EXTORT MONEY FROM SOME WHITE BOYS before the party.

7 Nifong went and talked to the press before he had any kind proof that a crime even happened.

8. Nifong said " This boys will pay for things that have happened in the past".

So Nifong and the FA need to have a law named after them and if any D.A and false accuser get someone tossed in prison, then both the D.A and the Accuser need to go to prison for the same lenght of time

I have a vision of Jakki hooked up with OJ out searching for the real killers and the people who offered $2M. OJ probably needs a little more money now.

Maybe Jakki could look for the real rapists as well.

If Lawyers don't lie, then I guess the defense lawyers aren't lying when they say their clients are absolutely positively innocent then right?

Case closed, since lawyers don't lie, and he defense is made up of lawyers, they say they are innocent!

Jakki-Nifong has NOTHING. It has been shown over and over and over again. There is no smoking gun. No DNA, no "secret player witnesses", no confession, no failed lie detector tests, no screw up in stories, no confusion about stories, no change in stories....what else could prove a rape happened? What is it that you think Nifong is secretly hiding (which is against NC discovery laws, to begin with) from everyone, including the defense, that is so airtight that it will not only debunk every piece of exculpatory evidence the three men have, but 100% guarantee these three men raped, beat, sodomized and kidnapped this woman and convince a jury of this?

NOTHING

Anonymous said...

PS-Nifong "says they are guilty".

How the hell would he know? Was he there?
The asshole hasn't even talked to the victim, how does he "know" a rape occured? Is he psychic?

GRRRR

Anonymous said...

Actually I think Jak-he is more Eddie Murphy's type.

The totality, and continuation to this day, of Nifong's reprehensible actions makes it easy for the NC Bar and others within NC to act before the Fed lawyers. And these lawyers REEEALLY don't lie.

Well it seems Durham has a financial crisis.

I don't understand City & County Govt. We are all seeing this train wreck coming down the tracks. The settlements could be Huge!

How much you want to bet Baker, Chalmers, Stephens, and Nifong will be counting their pension checks while Durham files bankruptcy?

Well all I can say the folks down in Trinity Park deserve to have their services cut. I won't cry one bit for them.

Maybe next time some prostitute makes an outrageous claim they will think twice. Couldn't they have waited for all the DNA test to come back? 5 other male DNA matches found, none from anty Lacrosse players!
