Obama Supports Call For Federal Nifong Inquiry

In response to a letter from an industrious Blog Hooligan, Senator Barack Obama, a candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination, has indicated that he supports the call for a US Department of Justice inquiry into allegations of civil rights violations committed by Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong in his persecution of the three innocent victims of his hijacked Hoax.
.
Senator Obama:
"Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective on the Duke Rape Case and ongoing investigations of District Attorney Michael Nifong's handling of the case."
.
"Congressman Walter Jones has asked Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to initiate a federal inquiry into Mr. Nifong's prosecution of three Duke University student athletes accused of an alleged sexual attack on a woman at a party earlier this year. Specifically, Rep. Jones asked the Attorney General to review new evidence that Mr. Nifong withehld exculpatory DNA results from the defendants in order to determine if his conduct has illegally denied the students their civil rights as U.S. citizens under federal law. This independent inquiry is needed, and I will be following its progress closely."

Great. Normally I'm not a great fan of dems, but SOMEONE needs to get the Justice Department of their fat butts and get them to look inot this case.

If the accused were black and a white DA had attempted to railroad them like this, Justice would have been all over them...and the Durham PD as well.

If such things as hiding evidence and the Durham PD putting out inflammatory wanted posters on Durham PD stationery aren't enough to bring Justice in on this as a civil rights violation, then we might just as well take the civil rights laws off the books.

ITS ABOUT TIME...Maybe we will see some true JUSTICE

How ironic that the AA Dem gets it and ol' Alfred E. Neuman couldn't care less. A politician placing that which is, simply, right over career expediency? What a breath of fresh air.

But we still haven't heard from John-boy Edwards. If there were a chance he could score a couple of million in a malpractice suit, I guarantee he'd be leading the charge. Too bad about his wife....

How ironic. John Edwards is afraid of calling for a DOJ investigation for fear of alienating the black vote. Obama already has the black vote and can reach out to other voters with this.
Kind of like Nixon visiting China.

Alberto won't be investigating anything real soon...he's fighting for his poltical life...caught up in his own fabrications on the firing of the 8 federal prosecutors. Hopefully his soon-to-come replacement will have the guts to investigate this.

I give Obama credit for his comments. Seems like he found the proverbial winning ticket discarded at the race track!

At this point in time not exactly a bold move on Barack's part, but unlike Hillary and John Edwards, he doesn't exactly have a horse in this race.

I disagree that Obama doesn't have a horse in this race and/or doesn't risk anything by his comments. Yes, he will pick up support from rational minds, but he also risks alienating elements of the extreme left (New Black Panther Party, etc.) that he may need in the Primary. I applaud the statement, even more because it may not have been in his best interests politically.

Gotta love it.
"Obama's comments were first posted on "Liestoppers," an online blog and forum on the Duke Lacrosse case. The user who posted them, known on that forum by the alias "sceptical," was the constituent who corresponded with Obama about the case."

So much for main stream media
