Duke Statement on Nifong/Mangum Hoax Report

Statement by Duke senior vice president John F. Burness on yesterday's release of the State Attorney General's Nifong/Mangum Hoax report:

Durham, NC -- “Attorney General Cooper’s Summary of Conclusions that was released today documents the absence of any credible evidence that would justify any conclusion in this case other than the one Mr. Cooper announced a few weeks ago -- that David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann are innocent of all charges brought against them last spring by District Attorney Nifong. We welcome this report as we welcomed the Attorney General’s announcement on April 11.

“We now await the N.C. State Bar’s review of the charges against Mr. Nifong for his conduct in this case.”

Brodhead MUST go!

This time Burness left off the implied insult of the Duke Lacrosse players. I wonder if the other PH.D.'s can learn new stuff too?

Carolyn says:

Oh, isn't that special? Burness 'welcomes' the innocence of three of his own students. I'm sure that makes Reade, Dave and Collin go all warm and fuzzy inside - were it not for the teeny little fact that Burness also 'welcomed' Duke professors urging castration of their own students, Duke staff putting up vigilante posters of those same students and Brodhead throwing every lacrosse player and their coach under the bus.

I hope and pray Reade, Dave and Collin 'welcome' Burness - and Duke - with a big fat lawsuit.

"We welcome..." "We now await..."

There's a profile in courage for you.

Did he really think that people were anticipating a statement from him? Why didn't he, or dickhead and the administration for that matter, issue a statement of full moral support to the Duke 3 when they needed it the most? They're spineless, that's why. More concerned about the university's image than anything else. And wasn't dickhead supposed to be popular among students at Yale? Seems to me like he's a fair-weathered "friend."

These people are soulless. That is the most empty statement. It is ugly in its emptiness. Does it reflect the fact that these guys simply don't know the students and so have nothing to say about them? Couldn't they speak to someone who does know them and work out a more human thing to say?

Big whoop! Did we need a statement from Duke or especially from Burness?

I haven't read a statement that devoid of anything resembling an apology since Nifong's non-apology. All I can say to Brodhead and the rest of the tools at Duke is BOHICA.
