It appears Nifong left his smirk in the pocket of another jacket. I don't think he'll be bringing it out anytime soon.
It's days like this when I'm glad the word schadenfreude was coined so I know what I am experiencing.
"Why didn't I drop the case?"
Because it was an avenue to getting elected as DA, as opposed to being appointed.
Because it was the case that was going to make my career. Nothing says "advocate of the people" better than convicting some rich white boys for a dastardly crime.
Or, because I'm a pandering, intellectually and ethically dishonest man who jumped on the suffering of others to further my career?
Take your pick.
Or is it because I am just an egomaniacal bullying asshole who takes out his misery over choosing early on a life of public service (versus the wealth potential of private practice) on rich white kids whose parents have to good fortune of being able to send their kids to a fancy university like Duke? This prick is no better than those lowlife Duke Public Safety or Durham PD patrolmen whose lives suck so bad that their uniform-driven power trips are their only moments of pleasure in life. Love the fact that they caught him giving Wade the finger right on camera - way to respect the sanctity of the courthouse, there, Mikeyboy!!!
Mikey, you're stuck in an ocean of lies, deceit, and abuse of power of your own making. The sharks are circling, and they scent your blood in the water. Kiss your career, everything you worked for, goodbye. Aaah, yes, blessed schadenfreude.
Fong weasled his way into the DA office. Can't imagine anyone hiring him in a private firm. Wonder if he applied to any of the defense team's firms on graduation from UNC law school.
Greedman told Nifong to stop with stroking his chin with the pen
Is this a multiple choice question?
1. Because I am a Chapel Hill Grad and I hate Duke...
2. Because I wanted more money in my pension when I retired...
3. Because I wanted to win an election for once in my life and railroading three kids was an easy way to get there...
4. Because as an NC DA I have unrestrained power combined with unrestrained judgment...
5. Because I am just a stubborn, egotistical, ignorant *** and I atually thought I would get away with it...
6. God, there are so many reasons...
