Nifong begs "absolute immunity"

Ray Gronberg of the Durham Herald-Sun is reporting,

DURHAM -- Former District Attorney Mike Nifong on Thursday asked a federal judge to dismiss the civil-rights lawsuit three former Duke University lacrosse players falsely accused of rape have filed against him and other officials.

The three-page dismissal motion filed by Nifong lawyer James Craven III contends the former prosecutor is entitled to "absolute immunity" from civil claims under that doctrine that says government officials can't be sued for their official actions.

The motion was Nifong's belated answer to a lawsuit filed more than a year ago by former players David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann... Herald-Sun

Begging immunity? He should be at the Hague charged with "Crimes Against Humanity." He is such a selfish bastard and his arrrogance to abuse the laws he swore to uphold is beyond comprehension, and AGAIN we ask, "Where Are The Fed's?"

People have claimed Mike Nifong was tried and found wanting because of race and class prejudice.

He has the opportuniy to make his case. Like a craven coward, he frantically tries to duck the issue. Early in the case he declared that a crime had happened, that Duke Lacrosse players were the perpetrators, and that it was racially motivated. He does not want to declare that now.

I must admit that my cynical nature led me to think that the cases against the people at Duke and Durham would have been dismissed long since. Glad to be wrong so far.

Nifong should be begging but the man's not that smart. He's just thumbed his nose at the court. This guy is seriously stupid and not much of a lawyer

The proverbial "fat lady" is about to sing and Nifong, Duke, Durham, Broadhead, G88, Steele, et al. are poised to quickly become bankrupt toast. To the Lax 3, the other players, and Coach Pressler--please, continue to stay the course and finish the job.

The decisions before the judge must be vexing indeed. It is a quagmire of such epic corruption, being drug along and milked to skirt other issues far more importantly avoided. The local coverage is laughable. Could their reports be any more brief? I have never seen such a modern version of a town from the Twilight Zone that could compare to Durham. Truth is stranger than fiction, and leaves me to beg the question of "Will the government hear the cries of the people for a Federal Investigation?"

Whatever happens, Nifong and Mangum have escaped the lengthy prison sentences that they so richly deserve. There is no justice in this country for falsely accused men.

It is so typical of the Durham Herald Sun to give Mt. Nifong's response to the civil suit such limited coverage. I cannot fathom the arrogance it must take for the editors to believe that they "know" what the public or the few remaining readers of this newspaper need to know about this continuing saga. THe name, Nifong, will forever be linked with his criminality and attempts at violating the civil rights of the lacrosse players. The name, Nifong, is known , literally around the world. Yet, the Herald Sun , in its continuing arrogance, fails to see Mr. Nifong's weak response to the various law suits as important. Absolutely amazing.

The punishment in North Carolina for a false claim of rape is a fine of five hundred dollars. No jail time is involved either short or long term.

The truth is a joke, what kind of legal system do we have in place? What can WE do to make things CHANGE?

IF this is true,
FINE CGM $500.

IIRC, CGM used to get something like $$200 - 300/hr. for her deeds.

She could pay off the $500 fine in just two - three hours of work, with some change to spare.

Maybe then she could afford more underwear, now thats something she could really stand to change.

He should be begging for forgiveness, but this is not who he is. Egotistical doesn't even begin to surmize this most dubioulsy contempteous "being."

The only feelings he has are for himself, and to know he laughs about this, and is not in prison for many years is more of an injustice done to the team, and the city.

And all of these years later with no change, I have to ask WHY?!
