A quick review of the Durham County Superior Court cases filed and disposed summary for the years ending June 30, 2005 and June 30, 2006 reveals that there was a significant increase in the percentage of cases disposed of by dismissal for nearly every type of case disposed of by the court from Jim Hardin's last year as DA to Mike Nifong's first.
One glaring exception to this across the board rise in the percentage of cases dismissed was in DUI appeals which were significantly higher while Nifong reigned in traffic court than they were when he assumed control of the District Attorney's office. It is unclear whether the drop from nearly 70% to just over 40% in dismissals upon appeal of DUI convictions was due to his leaving traffic court, his assumption of the office of District Attorney or some other reason.
The rise in rape and first degree sex offense dismissals from 27% to 52% from Hardin to Nifong also appears inordinately high.

"Well, if I were the defense attorneys, I wouldn't want to go up against me either." Yep, I think we all see why the defense attorneys are quaking in their boots. It's not just what a strong set of facts Nifong has; it's that he's such a formidable adversary what with all his dismissals and all. (Bwaa haa haa haa haa)
