Well done, young people.

There are some intelligent, fair-minded students that remain at Duke. I like this ad.

My favorite line from one of the G88 was about beginning the "healing." Indeed, there will be no healing as long as professors remain defiant.

Kudos to the brave students who signed the ad, since some of them are likely to face retaliation from the professors.

There may be hope for Duke University! As has been the case throughout the Nifong/Mangum Hoax, Duke students lead their professors in mature and thoughtful behavior. sic semper tyrannis

It is a sad state of affairs when the students of the university must teach the principles of ethics, integrity, and critical thinking to those who purport to be their instructors.

Bravo, Dukies, you've consistently shown more courage than your elders.

Bravo Duke students!!

The question... how/will Brodhead respond to this call for action?

It's about time......

God Bless the 1,000!!!! After the "The Truth doesn't matter anymore, its about the faculty, the NAACP and special interest groups" statement in the Sports Illustrated article, and learning that Solomon Burnette is being allowed to take classes at Duke, after a conviction for robbing two Duke students at gunpoint, I was ready to write Duke off. Maybe, just maybe, if students and alumni get together, we may be able to save the school from Political Correctness fever.

The real story of the 88 has not been told. Truthfully we are talking about a core group of professors operating out of the Hope Franklin Center. Rather than promote racial harmony they are into promoting racial tensions.

Go look at who was protesting at 610, go look at who appeared on CNN & MSNBC representing the idea racism exists at Duke. It was the grad students & activists connected to the Hope Franklin Center.

Duke has a problem alright.

My sincere admiration goes out to the brave and honorable 1000 Duke students. I must assume you learned your bravery and honor from within yourself and your parents - you certainly didn't learn it from Duke.

Why is it, at every turn, the young men and women of Duke, young adults, supposedly still in their formative years, have shown the judgment, the common sense and the intellectual honesty that seems to be anathema to 88 supposed professionals?

I know I ask that question in vain, and yet, at every step in this sordid tale, from the actions of the innocent players, to their teammates, the women's lacrosse team (still not feted enough for the heroines they are), to the reporters and columnists of the Chronicle, these students have shown a maturity that makes the 88 appear as childish brats, banging their fists on the table, jutting out their collective pouty bottom lip and demanding that they did nothing wrong.

I feel as if a timeout is in order.

Why is it, that when asked difficult questions, these students answered them, with research, interviews, intellect and honesty, and we can't get one caterwauling signer of the "listening statement" to surrender to reason?

This is coming it a bit high, no? The stench of hate wafts through the air -- hatred of privilege (as if the boys' parents haven't worked a day in their lives and are all subsisting off that secret white guy slush fund, you know, the one nobody told me about), hatred of athletics, hatred of innocence.

I wish I could say this is an aberrant, isolated incident, but this philosophy of stringing together "narratives" about evil white men causing all the harm in the world is alive on campuses across our nation.

You can learn one and only one thing from intransigent hate -- how to hate. I wonder if they offer a Doctorate?

A heartfelt congrats to members of the Duke 1000 for calling out the Group of 88, along with President Brodhead for their despicable rush to judgment against members of their own student body.

The 88 overzealous, tenured mind poisoners have been caught with their extreme biases showing, and will never have the courage you students have shown throughout this outrageous ordeal. With the 88, the presumption of innocence is apparently to be applied sparingly and selectively, depending on the accused's ethnicity and gender. White males: "GUILTY!!"

I look forward to public responses from the Groupers of 88, as well as Pres. Brodhead, but am wily and jaded enough not to start holding my breath. Holding my nose? Well that's a rotting fish of another color!

Way to go, Duke1K!

It's been a year. We know the facts. The AG has declared the suspects are INNOCENT . Given all that, this statement is dead on. And I just want to say...THANK YOU FOR WAITING!!!

3:24 "secret white guy slush fund" I LOVE IT! I hope you don't mind if I use that one! It is so true, people who work their asses off to make something of themselves are treated like dirt, while the parasites of society are free to bask in the glory of their "victimhood"
What a world!!

If Duke is to move on, the dirty stain must be cleaned!

DICK Brodhead and his cadre of poor, poor faculty victims must GO, as far away from NC as possible and ASAP!

And the students statement is certainly more literate the the 88 professors listening statement.

I'm thankful that 1,000 students signed that ad, and sorry that more of their peers didn't. I think Duke's alumni should stop contributing a dime to that school and people should stop attending their games until this is corrected. What ever happened to the good, old-fashioned mass protest and boycott? While the athletes should not be punished, the school should not get one red cent until they clean house, starting with Dick Brodhead and the Gang of 88, and continuing from there.

"Thou shalt not be a victim. Thou shalt not be a perpetrator. Above all, thou shalt not be a bystander"

- Holocaust Museum, Washington, DC

To the Duke 1000 who have chosen not to be victims, not to be perpetrators and above all not to be bystanders I applaud you.

(Maybe you all can teach your "teachers" something)

Carolyn says:

Just asking. But - has there been a response from Brodhead, et al, to the 1000 Duke students?

I mean, except for the sound of crickets?

Anonymous said...

Carolyn, those crickets you hear are the chirping of those who have been devastated by vicious racist attacks, umm, I mean emails.

That's the siren song of the defeated. That 'chirp, chirp' signals the battle cry of the poseurs, the charlatans, who would have us believe that somehow, someway, white men, young and old, never stop thinking about ways to demean women, puppies and the great God of our fathers (oops, that was veeerrry paternalisitic, I bet I get a 'D' in "Gender identity and how the metanarrative of poisoned dishwater relegates women to second class status" class).

Just thank your lucky stars that Don Imus was fired, because we all know that racism, sexism and silly old men wearing cowboy hats are now officially dead.

I've been fascinated that the group of 88 thinks that the only valid objection to their "listening" ad was the idea that it appeared to some to be presuming guilt.

To me, the offense was up front, and something they never recanted: their indication that Duke's student body is characterized by wall-to-wall racism and sexual violence.

The professors at this university smeared the student body: "This is not a different experience for us here at Duke University. We go to class with racist classmates, we go to gym with people who are racists....It’s part of the experience." Scandalous.

Looking at Duke's students, I am certain that this is a Big Fat Lie. But it carries weight: who speaks of the character of Duke students more authoritatively than their own professors?

Not one more dime unless and until the repentance of the faculty and administration is as widely known as was the original injury was.

My heartfelt congratulations to the members of the Duke 1000. As Carolyn says in her 2:32 p.m. post, I too assume "you have learned your bravery and honor from within yourself and your parents." Thank you Dukies for a job well done.

It leaves the sound of 88 or more whoopie cushions under a fat mans chair.
