Indeed. And we will avoid contact with (or interest in) undergraduates to the greatest possible degree.

Oh if only it could be true!

Perhaps Duke should punish the Gang of 88 "the old-fashioned way."

Hey, wouldn't it be great to publish Marlette's cartoon in a half-page ad in the first issue of the Chronicle this fall???

I'd be glad to contribute to the fund . . .

Indeed, it will be. I know whereof I speak.

The picture reminds me of Chairman Mao and the Great Cultural Revolution. It was fun for a while but it didn't work out well for Chinese students.

Dukes of hate! dukes, dukes
Eighty-eight! dukes, dukes
Dukes of hate! dukes, dukes
(repeat)

Paula McClain sings: As I blather and prate,
Nothing can stop me now I'm a Duke of Hate,
You, you're on my plate,
And many can hurt you, oh yes,
Yes, I'm gonna slime you,
Come on let me railroad you darlin',
'Cause I'm a Duke of Hate!

Oh yes and I-I-I,
Oh I hate you, oh oh,
So come on let me railroad you darling,
'Cause I am a Duke of Hate!
Yeah yeah yeah yeah!

And when I railroad you,
You are my victim,
My subject of hate,
We'll ride through my dukedom,
Oh yes an inferno you will take!

It is now demonstrated that Broadhead, the Duke BOT and administration will tolerate and defend to the last dollar of the endowment just about any behavior from the faculty, be it libel, slander or incitement to riot. But do you realize that many of these 88 faculty are persons of color? To even suggest that any of them might have acted in a way that even remotely resembles a Lynch mob, is something that surely cannot be tolerated anywhere in the Duke community. I fear that if the Chronicle were to actually publish this editorial cartoon, Brodhead would summarily expel the entire newspaper staff.

To 2:28-
"To even suggest that any of them might have acted in a way that even remotely resembles a Lynch mob, is something that surely cannot be tolerated anywhere in the Duke community." Your statement is so politically correct that it defies logic. So, it is intolerable to suggest that the behavior of the Gang of 88 resembles that of a lynch mob because some of the 88 who signed the "Listening Ad" are "persons of color." Would it be acceptable to publish the cartoon if all of the 88 were WASPs?

You are silly.

Carolyn says:

2:28: What on earth does the color of the Gang's skins have to do with it?

What clearly doesn't enter into your twisted bizarre PC thinking is that this cartoon does not judge the Gang on the color of their skin but on the content of their character!

And the Gang doesn't have any.

I think that 2:28 meant to criticize PC and the Duke "community"'s inability to tolerate it if the phrase "lynch mob" gets applied to a group many of whom are black.

Anyway, the 88 For Hate sure as heck acted like a lynch mob. What's more, I believe they knew it and reveled in it.

The 88 individuals get to express their viewpoints also, and it is important that they do so.
