Professor KC Johnson wins Hardeman Award

"I was notified that I have received the 2007 Hardeman Prize, awarded to the author of the year's best book on Congress. (My academic specialty, for those who don't know, is the history of Congress.)" DIW

The D.B. Hardeman Prize is awarded by the LBJ Library and Museum.

The $2,500 D. B. Hardeman Prize is awarded annually for the best book that focuses on the U.S. Congress, from the fields of biography, history, journalism, and political science. Candidates are judged on the importance of their contribution to scholarship on the Congress, and their literary craftsmanship, originality, and depth of research.

D. B. Hardeman was a long-time assistant to legendary Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn of Texas. Mr. Hardeman was also a dedicated student of the Congress, and he bequeathed the seed money to create the annual prize that bears his name. Today the prize is funded by the Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation, of Austin.

Members of the Hardeman Prize Committee are: Donald C. Bacon, coeditor of the Encyclopedia of the United States Congress, Dr. Richard A. Baker, Historian of the United States Senate; Dr. Raymond W. Smock, Director of the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies; and Drs. Andrew Karch, John Sides, and Sean Theriault, of the Government Department, The University of Texas at Austin. Congrats KC!

I wonder how the 88 will take this? They are still waiting for Lubiano’s Book!

KC Johnson can do just about anything whenever and wherever he chooses.

He's an academic avatar.

It still astounds me how one man could do all he has done, simultaneously, for over a year.

I do understand that some would envy that....especially AA hires at Duke who have been outed for the forthcoming work they produce...often morphing into a decade of forthcomings!

KC is....well....compelling.

kc: yOUR cv IS AMAZING. i THINK PERHAPS YOU DO NOT TAKE MUCH TIME TO SLEEP OR EAT.

BUT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED MORE IN ABOUT 20 YEARS THAN SOME WHOLE DEPARTMENTS AT DUKE HAVE DONE, COMBINED, IN THEIR LIFETIME.

I SURMISE THAT MUCH OF THE FLACK YOU GET ABOUT UPI IS NOTHING MORE THAN JEALOUSY.

I AM GLAD YOU POSTED THE LINK TO YOUR CV. IT SHOWS THE RANGE, AND THE DEPTH OF YOUR SCHOLARSHIP AND LENDS CREDENCE TO YOUR CURRENT WORK.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE AWARD. MAY MANY MORE FOLLOW.

Accolades and congratulations keep coming your way.. I am in awe for how organized and focused your mind is and I hope you will continue to share your briliance with us, while in Israel.
Your contribution in your field of research as well as your exceptional work in exposing corruption in Durham has set you apart from many scholars. "Congratulations" does not enough convey my admiration for you. I feel intellectually enriched reading your superb DIW blog and just finishing UPI.

1:38 AM --

You're kind of an idiot, aren't you? Either that or you're an underachiever even at trolling.

10:16 - Dang, I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it! ROTFLMAO!

BTW - my two cents on KC is to observe how modest he was about this award. He says not a word of it on his own blog but instead buries it in the 'comments' section and even then only mentions it after a nasty (and, naturally, an 'anonymous') troll attacks him. Anyway, kudos to KC for his richly deserved award.

And could someone please get ahold of that troll's mom and tell her that if she chooses to let her kid live in her basement and type on her computer to annoy all the rest of us, then mom needs to buy the kid a copy of Strunk and White's "Elements of Style". One look at what her pathetic 40-year old just typed a short while ago proves he doesn't have any.
