Time to Honor Durham's Hero

Reader's Digest is having it's readers vote for the Hero of 2008. Moezeldin Elmostafa, whom we affectionately call "Elmo," is one of eleven national Everyday Heros nominated.

Our Everyday Heroes risk their own lives to help people in trouble. They know that doing right by others is more rewarding than a big paycheck, and they do it without expectation of accolades or even a thank-you. That’s part of what makes them so inspiring. Which story from the past year touched you the most? Cast your vote here. We’ll announce the results in April, when we honor the Hero of the Year with a special ceremony. Reader' Digest

Cabdriver Moezeldin Elmostafa risked all for the truth.

He’d fled violence and corruption in his native Sudan and had come to Durham, North Carolina. Moezeldin Elmostafa worked hard and became a partner in a taxi company.

Shortly after midnight on March 14, 2006, he drove two young men to Duke University. A month later, he got a call to testify for one of three Duke lacrosse players charged with sexually assaulting an exotic dancer. What would happen to him if he did testify? The taxi driver thought of his own two-year-old son, Mohammed—and agreed. Then the police showed up and took him away, reopening an earlier charge for a minor crime. It was to frighten him, he believed, off the defense’s case. Elmostafa had to borrow $2,500 for attorney fees, but he stuck to his story—it was the truth. And he was cleared of all charges. Eight months later, so were the Duke lacrosse players.

The experience hasn’t soured Elmostafa on America. He’s passed his citizenship exam and is waiting to take the oath. "I’m looking forward to being a good citizen." Reader's Digest

Mr Elmostafa,
We salute you.

Congratulations.

God Bless Mr Elmostafa for having the courage to come forward, speak the truth, and become involved! Had he not, things could have ended very differently. What is so truly pathetic is what Law Enforcement, and Government put him through. Yes, he was intimidated, and am sure fearful for his life and his families. What a sad statement that speaks about being able to do what is right, even though faced with fear! It is shameful and a national disgrace!

Durham's nefariousness has yet to be fully made public. Many horror stories will be forthcoming, and I pray the ripple effect will not only impact numerous officials from office, but will also changes lives. Like the man who stood in front of the armed tanks in Tiananmen's Square. To boldly face the opposition, ironically our own government, and say NO!

There needs to be many more Mr Elmostafa's out here, and I tip my hat to him for his bravery and persistence. The REAL reward is not accolades, but change!

A fine man, and an example of everything this country should be.

When I am permitted to make public just exactly what was done to my brother, people will be utterly flabbergasted at just how deep the corruption runs!

To say shocking and horrific barely touches the surface. What was done, and not done will certainly invoke Federal intervention, and hopefully many officials fired, and above all, JUSTICE for my brother!

I will again say this, the FBI is indeed investigating, and my family will take this to the Supreme Court if needed. I commend Mr Elmostafa, but there is much more to be revealed, and the only accolades we ever wanted, was those of truth and responsibility!

Another thing, before you all go patting yourselves on the back, remember how I was mocked and taken from posting on the forums.

I have shouted from the roof-tops to bring awareness to the deception and corruption, yet murders still go unresolved?!

My family and others have been destroyed, and NOTHING except JUSTICE will ever recompense!

Mike Gaynor has the links to the countless officials monitoring this site that I sent him months ago. I also have countless letters and e-mails that have gone to the wayside.

My family has been threatened, lied to, and denied our rights to have full disclosure of details, that took the Durham's Sheriff's Office over a YEAR to send?!

Rights violations?! Intimidation?! Lies?! Cover-up?! Mr. Saacks is also responsible. At least Mr. Hardin tried. Law Enforcement, the courts, and county officials are all to blame!

This site has dedicated itself to just the LAX3 case, but who has cared to look into the murders, drugs, gangs, prostitution, illegal immigration, kidnapping, counterfeiting, and only God knows what else?!

And this all being done by the very Law Enforcement officers sworn to solve these crimes, not instigate them!

I may have been heckled off of this board, and others, but have stood my ground! YES, we do have Mr Kucinich, and the FBI involved.

Every jot and tittle I have said is totally true, and SHALL be made public, once ALL of the documents are received!

Blue blood, stolen body parts, fraud, and murder WILL be proven! AND this will not be held in Durham, but moved to another county!

If I had made any false statements or allegations, you had better believed that I would have been charged for something!

They may have destroyed my brother's life and body, but there is still a paper trail of evidence, and God as the ultimate judge will assure there shall be Justice For Jack!

Thanks Elmo. America needs more like you.

America NEEDS to grow a pair of balls, and less bullshit!

WTF?!

And not growing out of its forehead, as is the case with Mr. Nifong.

Elmo is why this country is great -- good people coming here to better themselves and add to our society.

Too bad we can't have some sort of exchange. We could import Elmos and export whiney, ungrateful, native borns who are too stupid to grasp what this country is and offers. We could start with academics (social sciences and humanities) and journalists. These people believe other countries are better than the US and that they are "citizens of the world" first and foremost so why not give them what they want. They also believe that people in other countries would value their self-evident moral and intellectual superiority more than the benighted and obtuse Americans they are forced to endure.

What would help MOST of all is if people gave a damn, and did NOT allow this to continue! Do you honestly think anything has changed for the better?!

Dispicable!

Does anyone know if all his legal bills have been paid yet?

Anonymous said...

yes

What makes this guy special, because he had no choice but to tell the truth? Wasn't he on some tape from a bank driving one of the players? He is a hero just because he told the truth? I don't think he had a choice, and had he not had pressure from the teams lawyers, he would have probably been bought off like the rest of them.

There is so much more to come out of Durham than the LAX case. The entire legal system is broken, the cops are thugs and worse than you can imagine. Countless elected officials from the Governor, down to the City Manager, to the County Clerk are involved. Many fingers have dipped into Durham's cookie jar, and the truth will be extremely explosive to many who have turned their backs on citizens, justice, and any code of ethics or valor. Embrace yourselves for an extreme shock. A tidal wave of truth will boggle your mind, the corruption SHALL be exposed!
