If you can't buy it, you can't read it!

BUY IT!

There are none for sale in San Diego, either. Not a single Barnes & Noble or Borders has one in stock.

Why is this?

Maybe the potbanging network doesn't want this book read! This book exposes the Durham & Duke Community for the frauds they are!

Aren't Borders and B&N part of the same company?
Go Amazon!

I'm about 2/3 through the book now and am impressed at the way KC and Stuart have assembled their facts. Despite a few bothersome typos, it's a great piece of work. It's just stunning how many genuine scum-bags there are in Durham and at Duke. There must be stupid pills in their water supply. They'll have time to regret this frame-up for many years to come. And a few of them will serve hard time, I'm sure.

The book is excellent, but the typos are so numerous that it appears to be a slam-bang rush job. We all know it isn't, but appears that way to the uninitiated.

It is chilling. None of this would have happened if Gottlieb wasn't pushing it. Mix in Nifong and it was a toxic brew of revenge and self-interest.

Don't think so, but B Dalton's and Waldenbooks are part of B&N.

jim in SD:

If there's a B&N near enough to be worth the trouble, you might want to note what I told the service desk girl, in my last try @ the shiny new Escondido B&N:

"The justification for still having these anachronistic brick-and-mortar bookshops in the first place is to not have to order such things. If I have to order it, I may as well order it from Amazon or someplace. Goodbye."

otoh, Amazon is now talking 4-week lead times and suggesting places where you can buy it for $12 over list.

Walmart shows it "Temporarily out of stock." I wonder if they're counting hits that page gets. I wonder if they're grinding their teeth in the process. Hope so.

"There must be stupid pills in their water supply. "

Actually it's lead, isn't it?

Actually I am wondering how much influence some Duke higher ups or aluimni have with B&N and Borders, etc. to not order copies of the book so "regular" people wont be tempted to buy the book. If its considered somewhat Duke negative then maybe my wondering is fact. Just wondering.

Typs - and the book had an editor - goes to show.

Can you buy it in toilet-paper form?

KC was a big bust at Duke. Was that really him? Virtually no one was there, he is an inarticulate bumbling rambler, and the questions I heard seemed as though they were planted.

As an avid collector and reader of a wide variety of "first edition" copies of books, let me assure you that typos are just part of the process. David Nasaw's critically acclaimed and scholarly biography "Andrew Carnegie" even contains typos. That book took years to produce and there was no rush to publish it as there was with the timely tome "Until Proven Innocent." I dare say that there are typos in the publications written by the Duke 88.

"virtually no one was there"

Hmmmmm. I was. Anne Blythe of the N&O said several hundred people were there. Looked that way to me.

Johnson could hardly be described as inarticulate.

Maybe you were at another event. I was at Page Auditorium (near Duke Chapel) from 6:30 PM to about 9 PM).

Or, maybe you share the anti-empirical tendencies of those infected with "academentia."

PS - My guess is no one is buying the book either . . . the one that somehow climbed to #25 on Amazon.

It may have climbed to #25 but is now well over 100 and sinking fast. Looks like all the wingnuts already got their copy.

"Looks like all the wingnuts already got their copy."

At least people purchased the book voluntarily and were not forced to buy it for some scholar fraud's course.

I'm sure a lot of his detractors envy his modest success. They should envy the fact that he is a superior scholar.
